Those who know me know that I prioritize collaboration over competition—especially when it involves the right people. That’s exactly the kind of people I met when I attended the Weekend Acting School for Adults at Akademia Sztuki i Kultury back in 2023. In addition to forming a long-lasting bond with our school’s theater director, Arkadiusz Ziętek, some of my classmates and I decided to keep working together by organizing improv jams and workshops. Last year, these colleagues performed Adam Mickiewicz’s legendary “Dziady”, along with characters from other works of Polish literature, in English. Last month, we decided to take our collaboration to the next level and established the Warsaw Drama Company Foundation. I’m honored that the Board of Directors entrusted me with the role of Councilor.
The next performance of the Warsaw Drama Company (WDC) will be on Sunday 11 at Dom Kultury Zacisze. In this free-entrance event, the WDC will present “Polish Characters”, a theatrical performance aiming to introduce English-speaking audiences to classic Polish literature, engaging them through the monologues of its most memorable characters, contemporary interpretations, humor, and improvisation. The audience will not only experience four distinct stories, but will also be invited to participate in exploring them. Due to this concept, no two shows are ever the same – each performance is uniquely shaped by the synergy between the actors and the audience. Embracing a work-in-progress format, the event offers a rare opportunity to peek “behind the scenes” of the creative process and directly influence the project’s ongoing journey.
